About Artizen Samui

In your bowl, in your life, with love.

Artizen Samui is the passion of Chef Jonny – an English chef who has dedicated his life to great food since he was just 4 years old. One day whilst on a family holiday, the four year old Jonny somehow lost his parents but ended up in the hotel’s kitchen. The chef’s wife took pity on the little Jonny, showed him around and sparked a lifelong love of food as they showed him the sights, sounds and smells of their kitchen.

After leaving school at 16, Jonny learned his trade in London, beginning at the legendary Savoy hotel, and then moving around numerous well known restaurants:  L’Opera, Bentley’s, Crockford’s to name just a few of the kitchens where Jonny absorbed all their culinary knowledge then moved on to further his expertise.

In 1990, he succumbed to the temptation of Asia and explored the cornucopia of cuisines in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Egypt and Nepal. He was deeply affected by his travels and on returning to London put his new knowledge to good use whilst growing The Canal Brassiere’s menus as their Head Chef as well as consulting on many new restaurant openings over the next 12 years.

Whilst working in London he frequently vacationed to Asia particularly Thailand and fell in love with this special culture. So  in 2004 he moved to Thailand permanently, finding a role working as Head Chef in one of Thailand’s most successful vegetarian restaurants. During this time, he was awarded 9/10 by Thailand Tatler magazine.

Now you are part of Jonny’s dream as he invites visitors to Koh Samui to help preserve the traditions of artisan foods created by curing, smoking and pickling. You’ll find old friends here, fantastic food and a warm friendly buzz. Come and chill out in our Zen garden whilst tasting the delights of our organic kitchen garden. You won’t be disappointed.
